Unofficial loader that runs your own copy of the PICO-8 Linux build as a native PS5 app.

Release notes

PICO-8 for PS5 runs the official PICO-8 for Linux (bring your own license) as a native app with its own Home icon on a jailbroken PS5.

Unofficial project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Lexaloffle. PICO-8 itself is not included: you need your own PICO-8 Linux 64-bit copy (tested with 0.2.7).

Installation

  • Extract PPSA99808.zip and copy the PPSA99808 folder, as a whole, to /data/homebrew/ on the PS5.
  • From your PICO-8 Linux zip, copy pico8_dyn and pico8.dat into PPSA99808/pico8/.
  • Within ~15 s, ShadowMountPlus adds the PICO-8 icon to the Home screen.

Requirements: kstuff, ShadowMountPlus, and elfldr listening on 127.0.0.1:9021 (used to get access to /data). Full instructions are in PPSA99808/README.txt.

Updating from v0.1.x: close the app and copy the new PPSA99808 folder over the old one. Your pico8/ files and your saves are kept. If the Home screen keeps the old icon, delete the PICO-8 icon from the Home screen (only the icon, not the folder) and ShadowMountPlus adds it again within ~15 s.

Changes since v0.1.1

  • PICO-8 logo as the app icon, replacing the generic "P8" icon.
  • New package layout: the asset is now always called PPSA99808.zip, with the PPSA99808 folder at its root (the format used by the PS5 homebrew catalog). README.txt, LICENSE and licenses/ are now inside that folder. Direct link to the latest version: https://github.com/RafaelNGP/pico8-ps5/releases/latest/download/PPSA99808.zip
  • contentVersion 01.001.002, so consoles and stores can detect updates.

Known limitations

  • USB keyboards and the on-screen keyboard don't work.
  • Tested on a single PS5. Other firmware versions may need adjustments.

Reporting a problem: please attach /data/pico8/loader.log and say which firmware you're on.

Safety

  • Leaves the sandbox
  • 1 helper(s) not reviewed
  • Built by the developer

This app can get full access to the console, usually to read and write files outside its own folder. Install it only if you trust its developer.

It ships 1 helper program(s) that run outside the sandbox; 1 of them the catalog's maintainers have not read.

The developer built and uploaded this file by hand. Nothing ties it to the published source.

From an automatic scan of the release file, which is read and never run. It can miss things: it is not a guarantee. How the scan works

Install

Read the release notes and the project's documentation first. Some apps need extra setup, such as a payload, configuration or additional files, and the developer's instructions take precedence over the general steps below.

  1. Download PPSA99808.zip and extract it on your computer.
  2. Copy the extracted PPSA99808/ folder to /data/homebrew/ on your PS5, for example over FTP.
  3. A loader such as ShadowMountPlus picks it up. Launch PICO-8 for PS5 from the home screen.

This app and its content are the responsibility of its developer, RafaelNGP. Homebrew runs with elevated access on a jailbroken console; install only what you trust.
