Like Comment

Native PS5 port of Quake3e, the improved Quake III Arena engine, drawing with Vulkan at up to 4K with DualSense or USB mouse and keyboard input. Needs your own Quake III Arena game data.

Release notes

An Auto Switch Weapons switch in Game Options, so you can choose whether a picked-up weapon is drawn at once.

Added

  • Setup, Game Options has an Auto Switch Weapons switch, the last item in the list. On (the default): a weapon you pick up for the first time is drawn at once (the machine gun never is). Off: the one in your hand stays. The change takes effect at once and is saved with your settings.
  • The same setting is the cvar cg_autoswitch (1 or 0), and the switch under Setup, Controls, Weapons still sets it too.

Known limits

  • The keyboard types the US layout's characters, whatever the keyboard's own.
  • The game modules run in the bytecode interpreter; there is no JIT yet.
  • No fast (HTTP) downloads: servers that need extra pak files are slow to join.
  • No Ogg Vorbis music.

Install

You need a PS5 that already runs homebrew (an enabler such as etaHEN, ShadowMountPlus, and an FTP server) and your own Quake III Arena data.

  • Download Quake3-PS5-v1.2.0.zip below and unzip it: it holds one folder, PPSA99303.
  • Put pak0.pk3 (from a copy of the game you own) and pak1.pk3 to pak8.pk3 (the 1.32 point release, from https://ioquake3.org/extras/patch-data/) in PPSA99303/baseq3/.
  • Copy the folder to the console over FTP as /data/homebrew/PPSA99303/.
  • Launch "Quake III Arena" from the home screen.

Updating from 1.0.0 or 1.1.0: copy the new folder over the old one; your game data and settings stay.

The README has the details. No game data is included.

Safety

  • Stays in the sandbox
  • Built by the developer

The scan found no way for this app to reach beyond its own files: no payload, no connection to the payload loader, no request to a jailbreak service.

The developer built and uploaded this file by hand. Nothing ties it to the published source.

From an automatic scan of the release file, which is read and never run. It can miss things: it is not a guarantee. How the scan works

Install

Read the release notes and the project's documentation first. Some apps need extra setup, such as a payload, configuration or additional files, and the developer's instructions take precedence over the general steps below.

  1. Download Quake3-PS5-v1.2.0.zip and extract it on your computer.
  2. Copy the extracted PPSA99303/ folder to /data/homebrew/ on your PS5, for example over FTP.
  3. A loader such as ShadowMountPlus picks it up. Launch Quake3e from the home screen.
